Many consider the 606 Club to be the best jazz spot in London outside Soho and the West End for the last 25 years. Expect an extremely eclectic mix of good bands with an emphasis on British musicians. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, there is a '2 for 1' evening with early and late bands. Most weeks, ten different bands perform. Jazz buffs should phone ahead for information that includes solid input on band styles, and then reserve early. This is the kind of spots where 'name' performers sometimes slip in to try new material or for a late jam.
Most tourists miss this club because it's one underground stop away from Earl's Court and tucked away of Lotts road. When you find it, getting in can be difficult on weekends, as it's a member's club with odd drinking rules- don't worry, the membership requirements are quick and easy. The shortcut is as simple as coming for dinner and staying put. The food is quite decent, offering Shepherd's pie, pigeon and other traditional British dishes at about £25 to £30 for two or three courses including the £5.00 music charge on Friday and Saturday. Opens at 19:30. Monday through Wednesday, music starts at 20:00 when first band plays until 22:30. Second band plays from 22:45 to 1:30: Thursday one band plays from 21:30 to 1:30; Friday and Saturday, one band from 22:00 to 2:00; Sunday one band from 20:30 to 23:30 Nearest Underground: Fulham Broadway
